Kamesei Ryokan's newest masterwork is our private “Shinano-buro” family bath. This outdoor onsen takes its name from the symbolic shinanoki tree planted in the garden. This tree is the namesake of Nagano Prefecture’s old title, “Shinano”. Besides this iconic tree, our gardener Okada-san planted several varieties of rare plants making for an artistic designers garden. The bath itself if rimmed by hinoki (Japanese cypress) and the structure covering the bath is built around a massive red cedar pillar. With Kamiyamada’s onsen water rich in sulfur, Shinano-buro is an elegant, secluded private bath.

For this stay plan, guests can enjoy one free 45-minute use of the Shinano-buro private outdoor bath. Additional usage would be charged the normal price of 2,100 yen for 45 minutes.

The Shinano-buro plan includes 2 meals (Chef Takei's creatively prepared kaiseki-style dinner and full ryokan breakfast), our spacious 10-tatami mat size guestrooms with private toilet (many with private gardens), 24-hour access to the communal onsen baths, and our friendly, helpful service.

Come and enjoy a relaxing soak with that special someone and/or your family in Kamesei’s private Shinano-buro bath.

For those who want to experience Nagano to the fullest: the nature, the onsen waters, and the cuisine.
Our Chef Takei always tries as much as possible to use local ingredients in his cooking. With this plan, we feature an all-Nagano line up for the menu. Depending on the season, you can expect such delicacies as ayu fish from the Chikuma River, wild mushrooms, Nagano miso, fresh picked fruit, highland vegetables, bamboo shoots, "Shinshu" salmon, deer meat, wild mountain vegetables, carp, and so much more. All creatively arranged by Chef Takei.
Along with our renowned service and the soothing onsen waters in our natural mineral water baths, you can now experience Nagano's food "culture" with our Nagano Regional Cuisine Plan.

NOTE: For this stay plan, the sashimi will be Basashi (raw horse meat) instead of ocean fish.

The 3.11 earthquake and tsunami disaster and the ensuing radiation scare has taken a toll on all of our psyches. Perhaps we need to stop and make time for some meditation.

We here at Kamesei Ryokan would like to provide a relaxing stay at our onsen ryokan, where guests can enjoy our peaceful, traditional inn, the rejuvenating onsen baths, and our chef's tantalizing kaiseki-style dinner, followed by a trip to nearby Kaigen-ji Temple's zazen room for an early morning meditation session.

Kaigen-ji is a centuries-old temple with a modern all-wood zazen meditation hall in the forested hills above the Chikuma River here in the Nagano countryside. At 5am, the temple is silent and still, with only the sounds of birds chirping and the wind rustling in the nearby trees -- perfect for a quiet time of inner reflection.

Note:

Plan includes our chef's kaiseki-style dinner in the evening as well as full ryokan breakfast served back at our inn following the 5am zazen meditation. Our onsen baths are available 24 hours a day featuring 100% flow-through natural hot spring mineral water. Both the mens and womens baths have outdoor 'rotenburo' baths also.

Zazen meditation first-timers are welcome -- our proprietor will gladly explain the basics in English.

A amall donation for the temple would be appropriate
